Legislation Aimed At Helping Domestic Violence Victims In Delaware Is Enacted
Legislation has been signed into law that is aimed at further assisting domestic violence victims in Delaware.
Senate Bill 274 amends the Delaware Landlord-Tenant Code by permitting tenants who are domestic violence, sexual offense or stalking victims to terminate their leases early for safety reasons.
The legislation, sponsored by State Senator Liane M. Sorenson (R-Hockessin) and State Representatives Gregory F. Lavelle (R-Sharpley) and Deborah D. Hudson (R-Fairthorne), is supported by the Delaware Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, as well as the Delaware Apartment Association and the Delaware Association of Realtors.
The Governor signed the legislation during a signing ceremony in her Legislative Hall office in Dover last week.
